B.Sc. in Management Studies

Introduction

The Faculty of Social Sciences offers the B.Sc. Management Studies degree by distance. Candidates for this degree are expected to pursue a course of study extending over a minimum of six (6) semesters and not more than eighteen (18) semesters, before being eligible for the award of the degree.

Entry Requirements

In order to be accepted into the programme, a student should meet the University’s matriculation and Faculty requirements, both of which require CXC English Language Grades I and II a the General Proficiency Level, or Grade III General Proficiency from June 1998 (or the equivalent) and CXC Mathematics (or the equivalent).

Programme Requirements

In order to qualify for the award of the degree, a student must compete a minimum of 90 credits (normally equivalent to 30 courses), of which:
  • a minimum of 30 credits are from Level 1 courses, and
  • a m inimum of 60 credits are from Levels II and III courses.
Students who register to study for the B.Sc. Managemen t Studies degree by distance will not normally be eligible for transfer to face-to-face study, and will be expected to complete the full degree programme by distance. They may, however, apply for transfer with the understanding that transfer is subject to the deci sion of the relevant Faculty Board and Entrance Committee.

Prerequisites

For some courses there are pre-requisites, which must be taken and pass ed before registration for such courses is permitted. Where these apply, a list of pre-requisites (in parenthesis) will be listed ne xt to the relevant courses. Additionally, in view of the implementation of a Banner System, new course codes have been assigned. The se replace the old course codes which are listed in this Handbook.

Withdrawal

Students will be asked to withdraw if they have not obtained:
  • 6 credits by the end of semest er 2
  • 18 credits by the end of semester 4
  • 39 credits by the end of semester 8
  • 54 credits by the end of semester 10
  • 72 credits by the end of semester 12
  • 90 credits by the end of semester 14
